What makes it jungle?
Chopped and rearranged funk breaks meet sub-bass, reggae and sound-system culture. Jungle grew from the UK hardcore scene in the early 1990s, with Black British musical culture central to its identity.
What to listen for
Listen for tumbling break edits, bass moving beneath the drums and ragga vocals. The rhythm often feels more fractured than a modern two-step drum pattern.
