What makes it liquid?
Soul, jazz, warm chords and vocal hooks give this side of drum and bass its melodic depth. Liquid can be intimate and restrained or huge and euphoric; the emotional feel matters more than any fixed recipe.
What to listen for
Listen for a rolling drum pattern, musical bass, pianos or pads and space for a singer. The music can feel relaxed even at the same tempo as a harder record.
