Website Repair

We fix websites.

A layout that falls apart on phones. A contact form that stopped sending. A page that takes an age to load, an error after an update, or a site built by someone who is no longer around. We find the cause and fix it properly — whether it is a simple brochure site or a complex system with AI built in.

Why work with me?

Shadowban is led by Mark Ward, who has 30 years of hands-on technical experience. You deal directly with the developer who finds and fixes the problem — no call centre, no hand-offs, and a plain-English explanation of what was wrong.

  • The cause found and explained before any paid work is agreed
  • Sound code kept — no rebuild unless it is genuinely the better option
  • Design, code, hosting and AI experience under one roof

What we fix

  • Layouts that break on phones and tablets
  • Slow pages and poor Core Web Vitals scores
  • Contact forms and emails that never arrive
  • PHP errors, blank white pages and 500 server errors
  • Sites stuck on out-of-date PHP versions
  • WordPress plugin, theme and update conflicts
  • Hacked sites, malware and spam redirects
  • SSL certificates and “Not secure” warnings
  • Broken links, missing images and redirect loops
  • Domain, DNS and hosting moves that went wrong
  • Search Console errors, sitemaps and pages missing from Google
  • Accessibility problems: contrast, alt text, keyboard use
  • Video that will not play on iPhone
  • Chatbots, APIs and AI features that stopped working
  • Code left behind by a developer you can no longer reach

Why a broken website costs more than it looks

Mobile first

Google now crawls and indexes the web with its smartphone crawler, so the mobile version of your site is the one Google judges. Content that cannot be reached on a phone is likely to be dropped from its index.

2.5s · 200ms · 0.1

Google’s Core Web Vitals targets: the main content should appear within 2.5 seconds, the page should respond to a tap within 200 milliseconds, and the layout should barely shift (0.1 or less) — measured across real visits.

PHP 8.1

PHP 8.1 and every older version no longer receive security fixes, and PHP 8.2 reaches the end of its security support on 31 December 2026. Many older sites still run on them.

“Not secure”

Chrome labels any page served without HTTPS as “Not secure” in the address bar — a warning visitors see before they read a word. An expired or misconfigured certificate can put it back.

Find the cause, not just the symptom

Most website problems have a single root cause hiding behind several symptoms. A form that fails, a slow homepage and an error in the admin can all come from the same out-of-date server setting. Patching each symptom separately costs more and rarely lasts.

We reproduce the problem on real devices, read the server and browser error logs, and check the hosting, code and third-party services involved. Then we explain what is wrong in plain English and agree the fix and the price before any paid work starts.

Simple fixes and complex systems

Some repairs take minutes: a mail setting, a broken link, a mobile menu that will not open. Others go deeper — database problems, custom PHP applications, API integrations, payment or booking systems, and AI features such as chat assistants and automated workflows.

Hand-coded HTML and CSS, JavaScript and jQuery, PHP, Bootstrap, APIs and LLM integrations are all everyday work. If you are not sure what your site is built with, that is fine; finding out is part of the job.

Experience you can check

Mark Ward has 30 years of hands-on technical experience, and his wider career includes work with Ford, Ferrari, Jaguar, Google, eBay and Facebook. Today he designs, builds and repairs websites for businesses of every size through Shadowban.

You do not have to take that on trust. Every site on our website builds page is live and can be opened, tested on your own phone and compared. This site is built the same way: hand-written PHP with no page builder.

Fixed properly, and kept that way

Where the hosting allows, changes are made on a backup or copy first, so your live site is never left half-repaired. Every fix is tested on iPhone, Android and desktop browsers before it goes live, and you get a short note of what was changed and why.

Many problems come back because nobody is looking after the site. If you would like us to keep it updated, backed up and working, we can agree a support plan that suits you — or hand over clear notes to whoever maintains it next.

A few practical questions

How much does a website repair cost?

It depends on the cause, which is why we look at the problem first. We confirm the work involved and the price before any paid work starts, so there are no surprises. Small fixes are often quick; larger problems are quoted individually.

Can you fix a website someone else built?

Yes — that is most repair work. We read the existing code, work out how it was put together and fix it without breaking the parts that already work.

My website has been hacked. What should I do first?

Change the passwords for your hosting, website admin and email, and do not delete the site — the files show how the attacker got in. Then get in touch. We clean the site, close the way in, update what is out of date and, if Google has flagged the site, request a review once it is clean.

Do I need a completely new website?

Not always. If the design and code are sound, a repair is usually quicker and cheaper. If the site is on software that can no longer be updated safely, we will say so honestly and explain the options.

What access will you need?

Usually your hosting or FTP login and, if you have one, your website admin login. Share them securely, and change them once the work is finished.

Can you fix AI chatbots and automations?

Yes. We work with LLM APIs, prompts, webhooks and the code around them, so a chat assistant or automated workflow that has stopped working or gives poor answers can be diagnosed and repaired.

Start with a conversation.

A clear brief is enough to get started. You do not need to arrive with a technical specification.
